COLLEEN SLATER PHOTOGRAPHY

Colleen Slater is a professional, freelance nature and portrait photographer, with a particular interest in insects, spiders and other 'small' forms of wildlife. She is based in South East England. 

She lectures on macro photography and tutors digital imaging software, including Lightroom and Photoshop, tailoring lessons to individual requirements.

Colleen also accepts commissions for event photography and portraiture, including Spotlight images for actors.

Colleen is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and her work is regularly shown in International exhibitions and used in various publications. She has a degree in Fine Art and taught at Mayfield College in Sussex before taking up full-time photography.

‘My passion for wildlife developed from childhood and growing up in Monmouthshire, where I spent much of my time outdoors, wandering the countryside and exploring with my brother. We dammed streams to make small lakes, investigated ponds teeming with life, fished for sticklebacks and caught grasshoppers in our hands. I was aware of all the nuances of the changing seasons as life came and went through the year and was fascinated by it all.

‘This wonder at the beauty of the natural world and living things continues to this day. I have a deep concern for environment issues and through my photographs I enjoy sharing my love of the natural world. I hope to bring to the viewer’s attention my interpretation of some of the many fascinating aspects of the natural world that are all around us but which often go unnoticed.
