LEMBEH

The black lava sand of Lembeh Strait – North Sulawesi, Indonesia – is one of the top locations for ‘muck’ diving in the world. At one end of the 15km by 2km strait, is the shipping port of Bitung – marine debris contributes to the man-made rubbish, rubble and rotting vegetation on the silty seabed. In these mucky, less than ideal conditions there exist some of the world’s most extraordinary, incredible creatures many of which are unknown to science. The extreme and testing conditions of this unique ecosystem have forced animals to adapt or die, resulting in a proliferation of unusual and endemic creatures.
